Red Bay scored all 10 of its overtime points at the free-throw line in claiming a 47-42 victory over Deshler on Thursday in the lower division of the Northwest Alabama Girls Christmas Tournament at Lauderdale County High School.
Deshler outscored Red Bay 14-11 in the fourth period to force the overtime, but Red Bay hit the clutch free throws and advance to today’s semifinals.
Allie Kennedy led Red Bay with 16 points and Kasey Sparks added 12. Keyonda Mason paced Deshler with 11 points and Christian Darnell scored 10.
Red Bay will play Clements today at 6 p.m. in the semifinals.
n Clements 54, Lexington 51: Daneshia Malone scored 36 points to power Clements to a victory over Lexington.
The score was tied at 37 entering the final period, but Clements came away with the win and advance to today’s semifinals.
Haven Albright scored 15 points, and Sydney Corum had 13 for Lexington (14-3).
n Lauderdale County 66, Decatur Heritage 23: Lauderdale County opened up a 30-6 halftime lead en route to a blowout of Decatur Heritage.
Chatara Cox led LCHS (12-2) with 12 points, and Ella Wallen added 11. The Tigers will play Belmont in the semifinals today at 7:30 p.m.
n Sheffield 33, Shoals Christian 32: Sheffield put together a fourth-period rally to earn its first win as the Bulldogs edged Shoals Christian.
Sheffield trailed 23-16 entering the final period before outscoring the Flame 17-9 to claim the win. Demarea Burge scored all seven of her points in the final period to spark the Bulldogs.
Tyzia Pride led Sheffield with 10 points. Lacey Lindley scored a game-high 21 points for Shoals Christian.
n Mars Hill 59, Muscle Shoals 30: Mars Hill jumped out to a 21-6 lead after one period and cruised to a victory over Muscle Shoals.
Carley Harrison scored 16 points to lead the Panthers (10-4) and Ann Marie Mitchell added 10. Keana Reed paced Muscle Shoals with nine points.
n Rogers 56, Giles County 50, 2 OT: Rogers let a big lead slip away in the fourth period but still managed to get the win as the Pirates defeated Giles County in double overtime.
Maggie Green led Rogers with 14 points, followed by Morgan Killen with 13 and Lindsey Hamner with 12. Kamry Coffey led Giles County with 19 points.
n West Limestone 51, Florence 40: Florence was held to 11 points in the first half and never recovered in a loss to West Limestone.
Kayla Carter led West Limestone with 16 points, while Bugg Grizzard added 13 and Laura Easter 11.
Alexis Sherrod led all scorers with 22 points in the loss for Florence.
n Central 67, Brooks 44: Bailey Nelson scored a game-high 24 points and Central moved into the semifinals of the upper division with the win against Brooks.
Central trailed after the first quarter but outscored Brooks 34-16 during the second and third quarters to take control. The Wildcats (9-4) also placed Abby Keener (11), Brooke Poole (10) and Madison Floyd (10) in double figures.
Deanna Thompson scored 13 points for Brooks.
