Hartselle to consider industry tax abatement

HARTSELLE — The Hartselle City Council will consider a tax abatement for Busche Enterprises Division Inc. at its meeting tonight.

The company is requesting about $54,000 a year in property tax abatement over a 10-year period and a $475,000 break on sales tax during construction of its Hartselle facility. Taxes that go to education can’t be abated, and the company will pay about $500,000 in education taxes.

The company bought the 263,000-square-foot Emerson Copeland building in October. When renovations are complete, the facility will manufacture advanced machine parts. The company expects the plant to create about 200 jobs. Twenty-nine employees work at the building now, and Busche will invest $20 million in the project.
