Home prices drop in Decatur

Home prices were mixed in the Valley, according to a recent report, with Decatur-area prices dropping and prices in the Shoals increasing slightly.

In Decatur, according to a CoreLogic report released Tuesday, home prices fell 8.4 percent in December compared to December 2011. Compared to the previous month, Decatur home prices decreased by 0.3 percent in December.

In the Shoals, home prices increased 0.5 percent in December compared to December 2011. Compared to the previous month, home prices in the Shoals dropped 0.3 percent in December.

Excluding distressed sales, Decatur-area home prices fell 1 percent in December compared to December 2011.

Excluding distressed sales, home prices in the Shoals remained the same in December compared to December 2011. On a month-to-month basis, excluding distressed sales, CoreLogic data indicate home prices in the Shoals increased by 0.2 percent in December compared to the previous month.

Home prices nationwide, including distressed sales, increased 8.3 percent in December compared to December 2011. The change was the steepest increase since May 2006 and the 10th consecutive monthly increase in home prices nationally.
